Letters to Grandma Heinl 1952
This could have been the only letter we wrote to Grandma Heinl. The editor does not remember. Richard was only 4 and he either did not get 12 pencils for Christmas or had not yet learned to write.
Dear Mother,
We have intended to try out an idea that might bring you letters more regularly from us, but in the pre-Christmas rush, it did not get started. We intend to start a letter to you and each time that any one of us thinks of something that he would like to say he will add it to the letter. We would then mail it once a week.
Yesterday Nana and Gampo were here for dinner. They brought the turkey. Mr. and Mrs Barrick also had dinner with us but had to leave right after to do their chores.
Betty and I went to church on Wednesday and then to Ron and Dorothy's house. They have their Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. I will leave this now and see if someone else will add to it.

Thank you for the dollar you sent me for Christmas. I got some rocket shoes and some slippers and an Electric Baseball game and a mad maze game and a pair of mittens and a hanky. And in my stocking I got 12 pencils and 2 candy canes. I had a nice Christmas.

Dearest Grandma
Thank you for the card and the dollar you gave me for Christmas. Santa Claus was very good to me and gave me a bath robe, slippers, 2 blouses, and a game of "Cootie."
Last Monday afternoon our Home Economics classes had a Christmas tea. Mother went and I supplied some background music. Refreshments included tea and coffee and some Swedish cookies we baked in class. Speaking of cookies, this year Mother and I baked 17 batches of cookies. We bake the Springerles early and it was very good by yesterday.
I hope you had a nice Christmas. As Daddy told you, we invited the Barricks for dinner. I believe they enjoyed it as they would have been all alone otherwise. We had a good old-fashioned Christmas Dinner with turkey, which Nana brought, and all the trimmings.
Last Sunday, December 22nd, our chorus at high school went carolling.
We all had a good time although some of the others got cold. I wore a pair of pants, boots, two sweaters, my top-coat, bandanas and mittens. Daddy said I looked as if I were going to the North Pole.
Our chorus is also going to give a play "Nine Girls" sometime around the first of February. I got a part, although it is not a leading part, it should be fun doing it. All of the proceeds of the play will go toward buying robes for the chorus to wear when making a public performance. I hope you will come early enough this Spring to hear our Spring Concert sometime in May.
Sunday the Hollingsworths and all are coming out for the afternoon and evening. I'll tell you more about that next week. (Promise!)
I certainly hope Daddy's idea works and that you get a letter promptly each week from all of us.
Happy New Year> Much love to Aunt Emilia!
Love and kisses, Dorothy
